@ Home w/ Mike & Katie

How cute are Mike & Katie?!

This was my first “in-home” session and I think we all had a blast. In-home photo sessions are intimate & comfortable and really lets a couple’s personality shine. This session was particularly amazing because I got to partake in some of those delicious sourdough waffles they whipped up!

Mike and Katie are ALWAYS cooking up something amazing. They both navigate a kitchen like total bosses and create food combinations that are incredibly delicious and mind boggling to me. Gosh, I need to learn how to cook!

Although these two are completely comfortable lounging around the house in their pajamas they also really get after it — planning their next adventure, next mountain to climb or of course, their next dinner to host.

I am so lucky to call these 2 family and can’t wait to document their love story for years to come.

Katalin & Her Baby Bump

katalin-maternity-1

Have you ever met someone who you just instantly clicked with? Katalin was that woman for me! I loved her energy and her personality — after the session we sat and had coffees together at Starbucks and it really was like sitting with an old friend.

This mama-to-be can’t be more excited about her little man, who is expected to say hello to the world in March — just a couple short weeks away!

I have been feeling so thankful for photography and the connections that I have been able to make through my camera. Katalin just reinforced those feelings ten fold. I’m looking forward to staying in touch and organizing play dates for our little ones.

Steve & Amy

stamo-2016-5

Steve and Amy have been friends for a lonnnng time.

They’ve been a couple a long time too.

Then they became co-workers, and subsequently co-managers.

Next, you probably saw this coming… husband and wife.

But the story doesn’t end there, of course, marriage is just the beginning. And who would you rather start your new beginning with than your closest friend, your partner in crime, your team mate, your husband … your wife.

That’s exactly what Steve and Amy are doing.

These two are always taking it to the next level, in their relationship, in their personal adventures and their business endeavors. Definitely a couple to keep your eye on! I’m so happy for you both and can’t wait to see where the years take you.

Personal: December in Bishop, California

december2016climbing-4

Fumie on Heavenly Path V1

I really can’t count how many times Phil and I have said, “We live in the best place in the world.” We say it a lot. Daily maybe.

Bishop, California has treated us well for just shy of 4 years, but we sincerely look forward to spending the rest of our days here, growing our family and raising our little John Henry here. And although this post isn’t about the Eastern Sierra Women’s March, we participated today along with some 580 other Eastern Sierra residents and couldn’t have felt more encouraged and positive about our town and our greater community as a whole.

But onto the bouldering and how beautiful Bishop is in December. We live is a town that has world-class rock climbing and mountain views that I believe are unriveled. A town that is generally sleepy and quite, very much our style. And this year Bishop has been getting some much needed snow that has only added to the beauty of the Owens Valley.

We are so thankful to live in a place that we love, of course! But to live in a place that our friends love too — a place where they are willing to travel hundreds of miles just to visit us (ok and climb) now that is  something to be even more thankful for.

Here is a compliation of pictures from December 2016. Lots of climbing with friends, outdoor adventures and caputing the many magnificent faces of my dear friend Fumie Hiromitsu.

Enjoy.

Personal: Catalina Island Adventure & A Brief History of the Cruzon Bay

catalina-2

catalina

As Phil and I meander through our life together I find myself wanting more and more to create traditions of our own, for our growing little family.

As a kid, my family made regular voyages on the S.S. Cruzon Bay — the Cruzon has a long history with the Aseltine Family. My Grandpa, affectionately known as Captain Gramps, was gifted the 1959 motor vessel in 1986 from his son, my dad, Ace Aseltine. Captain Gramps had quite a few adventures on the Cruzon, even living aboard for a period of time in La Paz, Baja California Sur. My dad has maintained ownership of the Cruzon for 30 years but it has been a true treasure, beloved by the entire family.

Quite some time after my grandfather’s passing, my dad’s oldest brother, my Uncle Ed lived aboard the Cruzon on Gangway S for many years. Uncle Ed always said it was a full time job just keeping the boat afloat. He carried out his last days on the vessel and his memorial was held there as well. We have lot of great memories of Uncle Ed, also known as Captain Eddy — Drinking his beer of choice, PBR — fishing off the dock and general “boatnik” misadventures.

After Captain Eddy’s passing, my big brother Acey and sister-in-law Stacey moved aboard the Cruzon. Talk about tiny home living!? Living on this tiny boat was comfortable for 1 person, but it was definitely a little cramped for 2. It seriously puts other tiny homes to shame. They enjoyed the boat together for about 8 months they now live in what would compare as a mansion down in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The boat has basically been unoccupied since their departure with the exception of a few guests here and there. My dad has been trying to sell the boat for months. It wasn’t an easy decision given all the love we all have for the boat but financially it was a decision we had to make. When it started looking more and more that the boat was no longer going to be “ours” — my dad and I decided we needed one last adventure.

For Thanksgiving this year, my dad, Phil, our 2 small dogs — Lucy & Frankie, and myself (with Little John Henry in utero) made the voyage to Catalina Island. It had been years since my dad and I made the trip and Phil had never himself been on the island.

Take a look at some of the photos below. We left Long Beach Marina, stopped at the bate barge and carried onto Cat Harbor, where we stayed the first night. The next morning we trolled around the island to Isthmus Cove, went ashore for a couple Buffalo Milks at the cantina — virgin for me — which is basically a glass of milk with whipped cream, nutmeg and cinnamon :-p The next morning we had great weather all the way back to Long Beach and got home just in time for a proper Thanksgiving feast.

The Cruzon Bay is no longer ours, it’s in the hands of a boat loving couple who (fingers crossed) will take good care of it and enjoy it just as much if not more then we have. It’s been a good run Cruzon Bay — you will be missed!

Jiselle & Brett

untitled-87

Jiselle & Brett came down from Mammoth Lakes to get some pictures in the wild iris fields before the flowers were done for the season — the photo session just happened to turn into an impromptu engagement session! Jiselle asked Brett to marry her just a day or two before and of course — he said yes! Congratulations Jiselle & Brett!

Sunrise w/ Nicole & Michael

nm-oct-2016-40

Huntington Beach, California – the temperatures are always perfect and it’s not far from whatever type of scenery you want – mountains, desert, ocean, lakes, forests – you name it and it’s all within a days drive. Although I absolutely love living in Bishop, I still have a big fat soft spot for the beach and its foggy mornings.

For our portrait photography session, we decided to take an early morning walk at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands — I had yet to take sunrise pictures and although I wouldn’t describe myself as a morning person, this session with Nicole & Michael made me wanting to do many many more.

The beautiful orange and yellow light + the cozy fall appeal = one very happy photographer. Thank you Nicole & Michael for dragging my butt outta bed and for being such an incredibly fun couple to photograph.

Emerson Amelia Celebrates 1 Year

highlight-emer-turns-1-16

This little one isn’t stranger to the wild lands of Bishop, California. Her mom & dad make sure this little jelly bean gets lots of play time and outside adventure. She surely is going to grow up to be the kind of kid who likes to play in mud, build forts and from time to time – skins a knee or two.

highlight-emer-turns-1-10

Emerson’s mom is an excellent graphic designer (which it doesn’t hurt to consider her a good friend!) She and I can exchange photography, baby & family portrait sessions for design. Cough cough – notice my EP logo? That’s thanks to Emerson’s lovely mom.

Well on this Friday afternoon we all snuck out to one of the many sunflower fields and photographed this little gem just as she was, Emerson.

The sunflower fields are just about gone but Bishop California has plenty to keep a photographer busy for a lifetime. Until the next photo session.
